Questions people ask before their first meeting.
What does it mean that ALG Financial is a fiduciary?
A fiduciary is obligated to act in your best interest — not merely to recommend something "suitable." In practice it changes what gets recommended and why: advice is driven by your plan rather than by a product, and we tell you plainly when the right answer is to do nothing, to pay down debt, or to keep money where it already is.
How much money do I need to work with an advisor?
There is no single threshold that makes advice worthwhile. What matters more is whether you are facing decisions with lasting consequences — a retirement date, an inheritance, a business sale, a trust you have been asked to administer. If you are weighing a decision like that, the conversation is worth having. We will tell you honestly if your situation does not yet call for ongoing advice.
How is ALG Financial compensated?
ALG Financial is compensated by clients for advisory services. Our fee schedule, along with any conflicts of interest, is disclosed in our Form ADV Part 2A brochure — available on the Investment Adviser Public Disclosure (IAPD) database, or directly from us by email or phone. We will walk you through exactly what you pay before you engage us.
Where are my assets actually held?
Client assets are held at an independent, third-party custodian — not by ALG Financial. You retain direct access to your accounts and receive statements from the custodian, which gives you an independent record of your holdings alongside the reporting we provide.
Do you work with clients who live off-island?
Yes. Many Guam families have children, parents, or property in the mainland U.S. or elsewhere in the Pacific, and plans frequently span more than one jurisdiction. We serve clients wherever we are permitted to do business, and meet by video and phone as readily as in our Hagåtña office.
I have been named a trustee. Can you help?
Yes — this is a significant part of our work. A trustee is held to a prudent standard and is expected to be able to demonstrate a documented process, not merely good intentions. We help trustees build and document a prudent investment process and maintain records of the decisions made. We do not provide legal advice or interpret trust documents; we work alongside the trustee's attorney.
What happens in a first meeting?
It is a conversation, not a pitch. We ask what prompted you to reach out, what you are trying to protect, and what decisions are in front of you. You are not asked to bring documents or move accounts. If it makes sense to continue, we will explain exactly what working together would involve.
Do you coordinate with my attorney and CPA?
Regularly, and with your permission. Estate, tax, and investment decisions rarely stay in their own lanes — a beneficiary designation can quietly override a will, and a distribution strategy can create a tax result nobody intended. Coordinating early tends to prevent the expensive surprises.
